Before Installation
First things first! After you have chosen the wall, multiple walls or decided to go for a full wallpaper coverage on all walls, you will need to measure the wall and calculate the needed amount of wallpaper panels for a fully covered picture perfect result. It Is strongly advised to calculate some excess wallpaper on both height and width of the wall for trimming as walls are rarely completely straight and even. In the photo above we can see a gorgeous example of a modern black and white removable wallpaper accent wall that has been created by Ann with the stylish Black Wooden Tile Design Removable Wallpaper from the Tile Wallpaper collection from Livette’s Wallpaper.
Prepare The Wall
A smooth and clean wall is the key for wallpaper installation. There are a couple of simple reasons why it is not advised to install wallpaper on a textured wall. First of all, you can damage the wallpaper, as installing wallpaper on, for example, a popcorn textured wall can tear the wallpaper during the process. Furthermore, installing wallpaper on a textured wall that has not also been cleaned can result in air bubbles forming during the wallpapering process and having an uneven wallpaper pattern repeat. And lastly, the wallpaper can also simply not stick to the uneven surface properly resulting in the material coming off.
Therefore, it is important to prepare the walls prior to the wallpaper installation, by creating a smooth and clean surface that is ready for some fresh make-over. A crucial part of preparing a wall for wallpaper installation is adding primer. Some of the main reasons why adding primer is important are:
- Priming the wall before installation will help the wallpaper glue or paste do its job.
- It is especially important if you have decided to hide some defects on a porous wall or a bare drywall with wallpaper, as it might just not stick to the surface without priming the walls.
- It will help with the wallpaper removal process and removing the wallpaper in panels, when it will be time to give the walls a new makeover.
Before priming the walls, it is still crucial to prepare them properly by smoothing the wall and cleaning it before. Not preparing the wall before priming can result in a poor adhesion and wallpaper hanging on loosely.
When it comes to the primer products, the best product for torn drywall, joint compound or skim coat surfaces and builders flat paint is Roman PRO-999 Rx-35 Sealer/Primer for Porous Surfaces. Roman PRO-977 Ultra Prime White Pigmented will be good as well for joint compound or skim coat and builders flat paint surfaces, but best for bare drywall or cured plaster surfaces. Roman PRO-935 R-35 Adhesion Promoting Primer will be best for glass, mirrors, tile or sealed wool paneling surfaces. And Roman PRO-909 Vinyl Prep Clear Primer will be good for acrylic paint surfaces.
Apply Wallpaper Glue
After the walls have been properly prepared, it is time for wallpaper installation. For traditional wallpaper, you will need wallpaper glue or paste. There are different roman glue options to choose from, but if you are looking for the best wallpaper glue for your project, here will be some roman wallpaper glue options.
- If you are looking for adhesive glue for wallpaper that will allow you to strip the wallpaper easily when it will be time to redecorate, then Roman PRO-880 wallpaper glue will be just for you.
- For heavyweight wallcoverings that will need a heavy-duty adhesive, the Roman PRO-838 Heavy Duty Clear will be the right choice.
If indoor air quality and sustainability are important factors to you, the the ECO-888 clear strippable wallpaper glue will be the perfect option for your wallpaper project.
In a lot of cases, you would need to apply the wallpaper adhesive to the back of the wallpaper, book it and then hang it. However, when applying Livette’s wallpaper you need to apply the glue for wallpaper on the wall, which will allow you to slide the wallpaper panel into the correct position and create a perfect pattern repeat. Installing Ceiling Wallpaper
Wallpapering the ceiling has been popular for a couple of years now. And if you are looking for a dazzling and unique wallpaper accent wall look, then the ceiling can definitely be the 5th wall to pay attention to. For an easier, more efficient installation process and a gorgeous result we suggest picking traditional wallpaper that requires wallpaper glue to be applied on the wall as it will be easier to hang the wallpaper panel above your head on the ceiling and slide the wallpaper panel into the correct position.
