Ensuring your wall surface is properly prepared for wallpaper will help with the initial installation as well as future removal. Priming will improve ‘slip’ to help with moving and positioning wallpaper during installation. When it’s time to redecorate, a properly primed wall will allow wallpaper to be removed more easily and with less damage to walls.

Choosing the correct wallpaper primer for your project depends on the type of wallpaper you will be hanging and what type of surface you are hanging on. The minimum dry time for most ROMAN primers is 4 hours. However, if the temperature or humidity in a room is too high, it may slow the drying process. The ideal temperature range for priming and hanging wallpaper is between 60 – 80 F at 30 – 50% RH.

We recommend removing existing wallpaper before painting or hanging new wallpaper. Priming over existing wallpaper may reactivate the existing wallpaper adhesive, causing the paper to lift or bubble.
